A canceled trip inspired an emotional travel influencer campaign with content that took everyone on a journey.
We took an international photography influencer to Japan when the world was under a global movement ban due to COVID-19.
In 2020, the pandemic and accompanying global travel bans caused air traffic to be almost completely suspended. When people's trips were unexpectedly canceled, how could Flying Blue, the loyalty program of Air France-KLM, keep them exploring?
We called on Jonathan Bertin: a Flying Blue member and photography influencer with 250K followers whose pre-booked trip to Tokyo was abruptly cancelled. Instead of flying, he posted 30 cameras to local Tokyo residents to photograph the places he had planned to visit. Like a message in a bottle, but with all the tools people needed to send memories back to France.
After weeks of waiting, he received hundreds of photos by return mail from total strangers. Discovering the faces and places of his canceled trip, Jonathan finally 'travelled' to Japan, even without flying, in a unique experience powered by Flying Blue.
The travel content was curated into an entire influencer campaign that took participants and followers alike on an emotional journey.
Jonathan documented the project and shared it with his community. Without going anywhere, this travel influencer shot the most-followed trip of his life.
